大理 (dà lǐ) Dali is a Bai Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan province and 大理石 (dà lǐ shí) Dali Stones originally refers to the patterned limestones found and produced in Dali. They were often made into paintings or souvenirs (depicting mountain landscapes) and over time, they became parts of home furnishings. These days, however, 大理石 has been generalized as Marble – wherever it might be from.
