门 門
1. Door / Doorway / Entrance
- 开门 (kāi mén) Open the door
- 出门 (chū mén) Go out Literal. Out the door
- 门铃 (mén líng) Door bell
- 串门 (chuàn mén) Swing by for a chat Literal. Stringing (linking) doors – Days before the phone, people would walk from door to door (or visit someone at home) to catch up, like stringing pieces of meat up on a skewer, 串 (chuàn)
2. A form of Classifier.
For skill set that requires mastery. In the olden days, one had to be enrolled into a school/academy or be an apprentice (to a master) thus it is symbolic that one enters through a door to learn and exits the door upon accomplishment
