二 is the trickiest numeral to grasp! Although 二 and 两 (liǎng) both means "Two", the latter is widely used instead of the former to indicate the amount (often with Classifiers).
两个人 (liǎng gè rén) Two people
两片蛋糕 (liǎng piàn dàn gāo) Two slices of cake
两碗面 (liǎng wǎn miàn) Two bowls of noodles

二 (èr) is used to tell date/time with the exception of "Two o'clock":
