就
1. Achievement
- 造就 Contribute to Literal. Build towards achievement
- 成就 (chéng jiù) Accomplish / Accomplishment(s) Literal. Established achievement
2. Accommodate / Compromise
- 迁就 (qiān jiù) Yield Literal. Shift and accommodate
- 将就 (jiāng jiù) Put up with / Accept reluctantly Literal. Direct one to compromise
3. Take up / Assume position (often involve formalities)
- 就学 (jiù xué) Attend school Literal. Take up studies
- 就职 (jiù zhí) Assume a post at work Literal. Take up a job/position
- 就座 (jiù zuò) Take a seat – usually at a gala dinner or theatre with seat designation
- 就餐 (jiù cān) Engage in a meal – in a formal setting (usually involves proper dress code and table etiquette) – colloquial term 吃饭
